Dorian Yates

Christened as Dorian Andrew Mientjez Yates, Dorian Yates, an English professional bodybuilder, was born on April 19, 1962 in Hurley, Staffordshire , England . Winning six consecutive Mr Olympia titles since the year 1992, he ranks fourth on the list of most Olympias won. Out of the seven contests in which he participated, he won six and was placed second in his debut. He has successfully established his legendary status in IFBB history by virtue of his unique approaches and philosophies for training and nutrition. His height is 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m). While his Competition Weight is about 260 lb, his Off Season Weight stands around 280 lbs.

While a teenager, Dorian got himself into trouble during his family's stay at Birmingham , Britain 's second largest city. He was sentenced to six months at Youth Detention Care. Fortunately, he earned an instant reputation as the strongest and fittest of Whatton's three hundred inmates. This got him anew respect for himself. Thus, he had his wake up call at Whatton.

Yates is a prominent proponent of Mentzer's espoused style of training popularly known as HIT – High Intensity Training wherein it is believed that muscle stimulation can be caused in a short span of time with the proper intensity opposed to the contrary extended work outs.

Dorian Yates was preceded by Lee Haney in the victory of the Mr Olympia title, and was succeeded by Ronnie Coleman.

POST COMPETITION CARREER

• In 1987, Yates purchased a gym by the name of ‘ Temple Gym ' in Birmingham . In 2006, he franchised this gym with the hope of making it a global chain. At present, it has four branches, three of which are in the UK .
• In 1998, he chose to work for a new bodybuilding supplement company called ‘Chemical Nutrition' also called CNP Professional.
• In 2006, Yates left CNP Professional to pursue his own interests. He started his own supplement company, ‘Dorian Yates Ultimate Formulas'.
• In 2011, Yates was appointed the CEO of a global supplement company owned by him called the ‘DY Nutrition'. As several pre-workout products formulated by him gained success, the DY Nutrition line released a number of additional products.
• He propagated the vitality of numerous bodybuilding supplements. Six of these products are worthy of mention – Blackbomb, Formass, Creagen, Noxpump, Tempro and GHBLAST. These products have been estimated to deliver more than seventy five benefits.
• Yates emphasizes on a variety of workout services including virtual training. He dotes on his favourite exercise – the ‘Bent over Rows'.
• In 1993, Yates published his autobiography titled BLOOD AND GUTS.
• In 1996, he released a workout video of the same title, featuring his typical weekly weight training.
• In 1998, he co-authored A WARRIOR'S STORY narrating his journey of a top professional bodybuilder.
• Yates is notorious for shunning the lifestyle, in spite of being offered huge contracts. He prefers to stay in his native country.

Dorian Yates possesses a unique ability of turning up at contests, and winning, despite being away from the limelight almost all the year around. This quality earned him the nickname ‘The Shadow'.
