Winstrol is one of the most recognized brand names of anabolic steroids in the world. Winstrol has been developed in 1962 by Sterling Drug, which later became Sterling Winthrop, Inc. Winstrol is one of the few steroids that is available both as an oral and an injectable compound. Another unique trait of Winstrol is that its injectable form is not esterified.

As one of the most commonly used ergogenic agents in bodybuilding, Winstrol is a potent anabolic, which is derived from dihydrotestosterone. As a DHT-derivative, Winstrol is chemically incapable of converting to estrogen. Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone as testosterone is the principal male sex hormone. Males, however, have naturally-occurring estrogens in the body, but in significantly decreased amounts than those found in females. Male bodybuilders who use steroids found excessive estrogen levels to be the cause of water retention and gynecomastia. Thus, many opt to use Winstrol in their stack because they can avoid these side effects even without taking anti-estrogen compounds. With these characteristics, Winstrol is preferred during cutting cycles to rid the body of retained subcutaneous water and fat.

Winstrol stimulates the production of prostaglandins, a group of hormones which act as mediators in the body’s metabolic processes, including regulation of hormone and calcium movement. Prostaglandins also play an important role in cell growth and in constriction or dilatation in vascular smooth muscle cells.

The downside of this drug is in terms of liver health as both the injectable and oral versions are 17 alpha-alkylated. And since Winstrol is an oral steroid it requires frequent intake, which can further strain this organ.

Recommended dosage with this drug is 15-25mg daily for the oral and 25-50mg daily for the injectable version. Women who want to use steroids may find Winstrol a safe choice; however, they are advised to limit their intake to 5-10mg daily with the oral. It is advised that women should stick with the Winstrol tabs than to experiment with the injectable. It is tricky to divide an ampule of this steroid and it is too risky for females to inject themselves with amount more than the recommended dosage.

When using Winstrol to bulk up, it is advised that it must be stacked with stronger androgens like testosterone or Anadrol 50. Such stack protocol can yield positive anabolic feedback but with less estrogenic side effects.

Winstrol is also usually stacked with Proviron. Both of these compounds have high affinity with the sex hormone-binding globulin, or SHBG. This property allows for the displacement of testosterone from the SHBG, thereby elevating the amount of free testosterone in the system.
