Body image a big concerning issue among boys and girls

Body image a big concerning issue among boys and girlsAccording to a nationwide survey of more than 10,000 adolescents that appeared in an issue of Child Health News, body image is a big concerning issue among young boys and girls. The survey pointed out that the image is big enough to prompt the adolescents to make use of hormones and dietary supplements for improving their physique

It was also noted by the survey that adolescent supplement users appear to be deeply influenced by the media.

Some of the most popular body image enhancing products among adolescents are creatine, amino acids, the amino-acid metabolite HMB, the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), growth hormone, and anabolic steroids

From News-Medical.Net:

Anabolic steroids have the most serious health effects, including testicular atrophy, impotence, liver and kidney damage, an increased risk for heart disease, and the widely reported “‘roid rage” (uncontrolled aggression). The safety of creatine, DHEA, and other products purported to increase muscle mass and tone has been questioned and isn’t well known.

“Most of us in adolescent medicine think it’s best to stay away from these products altogether,” Field says.

The survey, of adolescents aged 12 to 18, was done in 1999 as part of the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS), which involves children of nurses enrolled in the Nurses’ Health Study based at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. GUTS was co-founded by Field and Dr. Graham Colditz and colleagues of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Alison Field, an epidemiologist in the Division of Adolescent Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Boston and the study’s first author, was of the view that some protein powders may be relatively safe but the side effects of steroids are well-known.

Muscle growth supplements to be consumed with steroid intake!

Muscle growth supplements to be consumed with steroid intake! After steroids, muscle growth supplements are known to be a body builder’s best friends. Though there is no end to the amount of hard work that one needs to put in order to develop the best of musculature, a good dietary also helps in pumping growth as well as strength in the muscles. In this article, we will be talking about some supplements that can work wonders for body builders when taken in conjunction with steroids.

Creatine

Creatine works extremely well for accentuating muscle mass. Since it naturally occurs in the body, its consumption does not cause any side effects, whatsoever. Creatine is one of the most popular supplements consumed by muscle builders. This is so because they increase ATP which is the main source muscles employ for explosive power. This indeed helps them lift more weight and perform more sets and reps, eventually leading to growth of more muscle tissue. Creatine is consumed in a cycle form, which means it is first taken for four weeks consequently followed by a two-week off. It is available in many forms like creatine monohydrate which is its purest form, liquid creatine, and micronized creatine.

However one thing to be kept in mind while consuming these is the knowledge of the result it is likely to show when consumed with specific steroids. Depending on which steroid type and steroid cycle is being followed by the user, the form of creatine should be chosen. However, if you are confused, creatine supplements with built in dextrose and amino acids probably work the best. If you intend to go in for a more cost-effective combination, micronized creatine with grape juice is a good recipe. Creatine should always be taken after the work-out.

Glutamine

L-Glutamine is the most abundantly found amino acid in the muscle tissue. It is highly useful because it helps prevent muscle wasting and causes recovery at a great rate. Consequently, the faster the recovery, the sooner a person will be able to hit the gym.

One must know that Glutamine and Creatine should not be taken at the same time as they compete for receptors to be absorbed in the muscle cells.

Ideally glutamine should be taken pre-workout and creatine post-workout sessions.

Balanced diet still recommended over taking additional supplements

Balanced diet still recommended over taking additional supplementsA trio of fitness and health experts held a presentation at the Holy Family Memorial’s Rehab Plus Therapy and Sports Medicine last Wednesday. This is in response to the increasing concern of athletic supplements tainted with steroids and other dangerous substances.

Joining Dr. Ryan Dopirak of Lakeshore Orthopedics are Toni Pflieger, registered dietician of HFM’s nutrition services and certified strength and conditioning specialist Nick Karcz of HFM athletic performance.

According to Dr. Dopirak, overall approach to physical fitness is particularly more on proper dietary habits. He also wants people to learn more about supplements.

Although the panel suggested to getting your supplements at a trusted distributor, Dopirak still does not recommend taking them or giving them to kids.

Pflieger, on the other hand, still encourages people to follow a well-rounded balanced diet instead of taking supplements.

One of the supplements discussed was creatine. Creatine is a chemical produced naturally by the body. The US Food and Drug Administration have not approved it because it has no proven effects.

NO-Xplode supplement, which is popular among young people due to its high caffeine content, was also discussed during the talk. The supplement poses potential danger because quantities of ingredients are not listed in the product label. It comes in both pill and powder form.

Importance of Creatine intake with steroids!

Importance of Creatine intake with steroids! When utilized properly and optimally, creatine can help bodybuilders add up to 5 to 10 pounds of muscle mass in a very short period of time. This is the reason why the invention of Creatine was hailed as good news for the entire muscle building community that include routine users of anabolic steroids.

Most of these community members usually look for supplements that can help them stay ahead of the competition besides further accentuating their muscle growth along with steroids.

Let us take a deeper look into how does creatine actually function and how important it is for steroid-taking body builders.

Creatine stands only second to protein supplements which also form an important part of muscle builders’ diet. However, it has been increasingly gaining great popularity because being a derived function of amino acids proves to be one of the safest and most efficient supplements to be ever consumed by athletes and bodybuilders.

Some of its readily available formulations include Creatine phosphate, malate and citrate. Other creatine formulations include Creatine Monohydrate, Anhydrous, Creatine Ester, Effervescent Creatine, and Magnesium Creatine.

How does creatine function?

Creatine has two major functions for muscle builders. Creatine, most importantly increases the size and the volume of muscle cells, which equals the quantity of water each cell can retain. Its second important function is to provide the muscle cells with instant energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), the compound highly indispensable for the execution of muscle building exercises. Formation of extra ATP within the muscle cells helps perform more repetitions than one normally can, which indeed translates into improved and faster muscle growth.

However, creatine is efficient for only seventy percent of athletes and body-builders. This is so because there are many people whose bodies might not react to creatine as they might be producing enough creatine phosphate in their muscles already. Taking creatine supplements in that case will not make much of a difference.

The good news for body builders taking anabolic steroids is that the intake of this supplement highly accentuates the growth of the muscle by leaps and bounds. It must be however ensured that you take proper medical advice before starting to take Creatine along with a steroid cycle.

Summary: Steroid-taking muscle builders are often on a lookout for supplements that further aid their muscle growth in the process. This article brings for you one such supplement called Creatine, which has been gaining immense popularity these days. Read on to know how it functions and more!
