Involvement of former officers in steroid case, a personnel issue according to KPD
The Kerrville Police District issued a statement regarding the involvement of two of their former officers in a steroid case against Department of Public Safety officer Jeff Jerman.
Capt. David Knight, the department’s acting chief, issued the statement in behalf of KPD chief John Young who was out of town.
According to Knight, the department declined to comment because it is a personnel issue. Therefore, any concerns must be referred to the city’s human resource department.
During the KPD’s internal investigation of officer Jerman’s case, it was implicated that the two officers were involved in the drug case.
Danny Sanchez, a KPD detective, has been with the department for 16 years. Larry Sanchez, his brother, has been previously employed as a KPD officer for three to four years. Larry Sanchez, however, works as school resource officer before he resigned last Thursday. Danny was terminated the day after his brother resigned.
According to city manager Todd Parton, no criminal charges have been filed against the two brothers.
Wayne Matthews, the Texas Ranger assigned in the Jerman case also declined to give a comment because he is still waiting to present evidence to the grand jury.
From Daily Times:
“This has more to do with a violation of city employee personnel policies than anything else,” Parton said. “I believe the investigation has pretty much been closed down. Both of the men were very good officers.”
