Goodell asks congress to support his appeal

Goodell asks congress to support his appealAccording to Rep. Bobby Rush, the chairman of house subcommittee for Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, they are concerned about the effects of the StarCaps case and would want to keep a close eye on the procedure and the conflict. However, Rush said that congress would prefer to help both parties with coming up with a solution and resolving the issue among themselves.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appealed to congress to change federal labor law to protect the anti-steroid policies of professional sports league and to support NFL’s decision to suspend the two Vikings players, Kevin and Pat Williams.

The Congress issued a statement last Tuesday regarding their reluctance to intervene and even urged the NFL and the players union to settle their dispute by themselves.

Rep. Henry Waxman, the congressional representative who led investigations during the 2005 to 2008 steroids abuse in baseball supports Goodell’s appeal.

According to Rep. Waxman, steroids policies set by professional sports league to prevent steroids abuse should be upheld. If these policies set by professional sports league be voided, it could lead to prevalence of steroids abuse in sports, not only in professional leagues but also in high school and college football and baseball.
