Juha Lallukka, Finnish media say cross-country skier, has admitted that his blood samples show traces of human growth hormone (HGH).
The 32-year-old Lallukka admitted that it was in his sample, according to Finnish broadcasting company YLE and the Stt news agency, but lawyer of the skier denies his client used the illegal substance.
From Chinapost.com.tw:
Earlier this week, YLE quoted Finnish Ski Association chairman Matti Sundberg as saying a male Finnish skier is suspected of using illegal substances, but gave no other details.
Lallukka was a member of the Finnish team that finished fourth in the men’s 4×10-kilometer cross-country relay in Oslo, Norway, in March.
On Wednesday, Lallukka and his lawyer were not available for comment.

A serious threat to world sport was posed recently after 109 footballers taking part in this summer’s Under-17 World Cup tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid clenbuterol after eating contaminated meat.
The “compelling evidence” that tainted meat was to blame meant no action was taken against any of the affected players by FIFA and the WADA but this seems like a bias as 22 year-old British sprint hurdler Callum Priestley, who is serving a two-year ban after testing positive for clenbuterol while on an official UK Athletics training camp in South Africa in 2010 was accused for failing to prove his innocence.
From Blogs.telegraph.co.uk:
His claims that he had eaten contaminated meat at the UK Athletics hotel, and that he was even treated for food poisoning at the time of his drug test, failed to carry any weight with his disciplinary panel and his punishment was confirmed.
Although his ban expires in February, Priestley, once considered one of Britain’s brightest young track prospects, is so disillusioned by his experience that he has now quit the sport.
Michele Verokken, the former head of anti-doping in Britain, is convinced he was innocent though whether he was really telling the truth we will never be known for sure because once the meat was consumed, the evidence vanished.
In interest of sports, it would be good if countries where there is a proven problem are barred from hosting any major international sporting events until they can correct things at their end.

Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez defended himself on Wednesday as doping clouds arose after his strength coach was revealed to be among those involved in a major doping scandal that stung US athletics.
“Whatever doping they want to do – blood, Olympian – whatever they want to do, I’ll do it, as long as he does it too,” Marquez said through a translator.
From Sport24.co.za:
Victor Conte, whose BALCO products were at the centre of a major doping scandal, revealed in a Twitter posting on Monday that Marquez’s strength and conditioning coach was Angel Heredia, who testified in a doping investigation.
Heredia admitted providing banned performance-enhancing substances to Trevor Graham, former coach of disgraced former stars Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery among others.
Alex Ariza, Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach, commented about Marquez looking bigger and stronger as well. Together with Heredia’s past links to doping, Marquez found himself on the defensive about his fit physique.
“It’s a shame all the work I’ve done has been trashed by these guys, Conte and Ariza,” Marquez said.

A current study on the body’s elimination of small doses of clenbuterol could offer new perspectives on identifying non-intentional doping after oral ingestion of contaminated food.
According to scientists from the FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC), the Centre for Leisure, Sport and Tourism Research and Development (CLTS, Nicosia, Cyprus), and the Swiss Laboratory for Doping Analyses (Lausanne, Switzerland), the completion of the first stage of a study addressing the still pending matter of food contamination with clenbuterol.
From Fifa.com:
Several countries have been identified where such contamination is frequently found, posing numerous practical, procedural and legal problems for anti-doping organisations and athletes alike. WADA had been informed beforehand about the study and received the approved research protocol.
The study is designed in such way that it simulates the ingestion of food contaminated with clenbuterol, where rather small amounts of the substance enter the body and are then distributed, degraded and eliminated via different routes. All these processes, including the speed in which they take place (known as the pharmacokinetics of a substance) need to be properly understood in order to evaluate the effect of different doses of clenbuterol on the elimination process from an athlete’s body.
The study, sponsored by FIFA, is being conducted by the CLTS at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus and approved by both the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee and the Cyprus Drug Council.

In the world of professional sports dominated by use of legal anabolic steroids and legit performance enhancing drugs, testosterone cypionate is one of the very few names that commands respect from all quarters.
Classified as a Schedule III drug and termed as a controlled substance under the Anabolic Steroids Control Act, testosterone cypionate is the best when it comes to improving on-and-off field performance in as short as four to eight weeks. Medically guided use of this legal anabolic steroid does not lead to steroid side effects in the short or long term.
The testosterone derivative has an anabolic/androgenic ratio of 100:100 and it is admired for stimulating dramatic enhancements in terms of performance, strength, stamina, muscle mass, and muscle definition. The chemical name for testosterone cypionate is androst-4-en-3-one, 17-(3-cyclopentyl-1-oxopropoxy)-, (17β)- and its molecular weight is 412.61 and its molecular formula is C27H40O.
Testosterone cypionate can be stacked with almost any steroid. Individuals about to make use of this steroid and having a history of excess estrogen formation should keep antiestrogens such as Clomid, Nolvadex, or Arimidex ready during cycle and post cycle to restore natural production of testosterone.
The recommended dose of testosterone cypionate is 200-1000 mg per week for new users and 500-1000 mg per week for long-time users. Testosterone cypionate can be injected at dorsogluteal site (buttock), Ventrogluteal part of the Gluteus (region slightly on right upper side of buttocks), deltoid (shoulder), Triceps and Biceps (arms), or even Pectorals (chest region). Abuse of this testosterone derivative can lead to bone pain, increased thirst, memory problems, restless feeling, confusion, nausea, loss of appetite, increased urination, and weakness.

Georges Laraque and Andrei Nazarov fought each other for the last time almost eight years ago but the two former NHL heavyweights have now found the spotlight for different controversies.
Laraque says in his soon-to-be released biography, The Story of the NHL’s Unlikeliest Tough Guy that both tough guys and star players used steroids during his 11-year NHL career.
From Montrealgazette.com:
While Laraque doesn’t name names — in contrast to the storm Jose Canseco set off with his kiss-and-tell book about major-league baseball players using illegal substances — he issues a challenge for professional leagues to clean up their dressing rooms.
“Hockey, as well as any other sport in the world, has to take action against the human growth hormone that players have been using for a couple of years now,” he wrote.
Bill Daly, the NHL’s deputy commissioner, said it would be inappropriate to respond.
“Most of us knew who they were, but not a single player, not even me, would ever think of raising his hand to break the silence and accuse a fellow player,” Laraque wrote. “I don’t like snitches and will never be one.”
