McGwire apologizes for steroid use

Mark McGwire, the former St Louis Cardinals slugger, has admitted that his Major League Baseball playing career was characterized by the use of steroids.

I used steroids at various times during the decade and regretted doing so, McGwire said.

From Espnstar.com:

“I used steroids during my playing career and I apologise,” McGwire said. “I remember trying steroids very briefly in the 1989-1990 off-season and then after I was injured in 1993, I used steroids again.

“I used them on occasion throughout the ’90s, including during the 1998 season.

“I wish I had never touched steroids. It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologise. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”

The Cardinals announced in October that McGwire would return to St Louis this year as the team’s hitting coach.

McGwire broke MLB’s single-season home run record with 70 in 1998.

Former American League MVP admits regret

Former baseball slugger Jose Canseco expressed regret in a one-hour documentary titled, “Jose Canseco: The Last Shot” over his involvement in the sport’s ongoing steroids controversy.

Canseco regretted “mentioning players (as steroids users)” in his book “Juiced,” which was published in 2005 and ultimately resulted in a congressional hearing on doping in the sport.

From Espnstar.com:

Canseco, 44, revealed that he wrote the book because he wanted to get even with Major League Baseball, which he believed had him “forced out of the game.”

In his book, Canseco named Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro as steroids users. Those three players, along with Canseco, were present at a March 2005 congressional hearing in which Sosa and McGwire provided questionable testimony while Palmeiro defiantly denied using steroids.

Less than four years later, Sosa and McGwire are widely considered longshots to reach the Hall of Fame despite ranking sixth and eighth, respectively, on baseball’s all-time list for career home runs. Palmeiro tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during the 2005 season and was suspended.

“If I could meet with Mark McGwire and these players, I definitely would apologize to them,” said Canseco, who developed a friendship with McGwire during their seven-year stint together with the Oakland Athletics. “They were my friends. I admired them, I respected them.”

“I never realized this was going to blow up and hurt so many people,” Canseco said in the interview.

Wanniarachchi’s appeal suppressed over Commonwealth Games bid

Sri Lanka’s boxing star, Manju Wanniarachchi, has claimed he was prevented by the authorities from challenging the decision.

Wanniarachchi, gold medal from the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games was stripped off on a doping conviction, alleged the government of Sri Lanka told him that an appeal would hinder the country’s bid to host the Games.

From Print.dailymirror.lk:

Sri Lanka’s southern Hambantota competes against Gold Coast in Australia to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Wanniarachchi’s Delhi gold was recently handed over to Welsh boxer Sean McGoldrick after the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) found traces of nandrolone in his urine samples given in October 2010.

Nandrolone is among the banned substances under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations.

But Wanniaarachchi says he was prevented from proving his innocence by Sri Lanka’s sports ministry.

“I am unable to file the appeal because authorities believe that other countries may not help Sri Lanka’s bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games when a Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) decision is challenged,” he added.

“Neither the government, nor the ministry exerted pressure on him. The medical report clearly shows that that substance was in his body. I have both the police and medical reports,” said Sports minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

Testosterone Suspension – Qualified Knowledge

If you have been looking for a safe, potent, easily accessible, and affordable anabolic steroid, testosterone suspension is the best option for you. Available in an injectable preparation and containing unesterfied testosterone in a water base, this derivative of testosterone has no esters attached to it.

Testosterone Suspension is also one of the most popular and commonly used derivatives of testosterone and can be easily purchased from a steroid pharmacy, with or without prescription. This extremely potent injectable steroid product is best known for its ability to improve muscle mass, body strength, and repair muscles besides enhancing on-field performance in as short as four to six weeks.

This steroid is also effective when it comes to facilitating the processes of retention of nitrogen and synthesis of protein that are instrumental in buildup of solid muscles and muscle mass enhancements.     This testosterone derivative has an active life of 2-3 days and has an anabolic/androgenic ratio of 100:100 that means that 100 mg of this derivative will be yielding 100 mg of testosterone.

Testosterone suspension is also effective for improving the supply of oxygenated blood and enhancing the production of red blood cells. The recommended dose of this testosterone derivative is 350-1000 mg per week or 50-140 mg per day by men for a period of 8-10 weeks; it can be stacked with water or oil based anabolic (generally Anavar or Dianabol) in the same syringe (preferably a 27-gauge insulin syringe). Use of this testosterone derivative is not recommended to pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Steroid testing protocols appreciated by County prosecutor

The reforms announced recently by Attorney General Paula Dow to combat steroid use in law enforcement were appreciated by Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli.

Molinelli said the reforms would allow greater flexibility in confronting what has been a complex problem to executives from law enforcement throughout the county.

From Northjersey.com:

“Now, a law enforcement executive — a prosecutor, a police chief — now it doesn’t matter if the police officer is showing up and performing his or her duties,” he said. “If non-prescribed steroid use exists, we can now not only do something, we have an obligation to do something. It gives executives more tools — so we’re not waiting to see something happen that’s wrong.”

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes, a member of Dow’s study group that recommended the reforms, said Thursday that there was “no question” steroid testing would be put in place in Passaic County police departments. Molinelli echoed her statement, saying that police departments across Bergen County welcome the reforms.

“The overall concept of allowing law enforcement executives to be more aggressive in this area is a very huge and positive step forward,” he said.

Dow’s call for reform was the result of a six-month investigation into allegations that a doctor may have illegally prescribed anabolic steroids, human growth hormones (HGH), and other muscle building drugs to 248 public safety officials, mostly police and firefighters.

Steroid case won by Soares

Felony charges have been reinstated by a state appeals court against five operators of a former Florida pharmacy who were implicated in a network of steroid distribution.

The 3-2 decision by the midlevel Appellate Division of state Supreme Court has reversed the decision of Albany judge for disqualifying Albany County District Attorney David Soares from prosecuting the case, in part, as the defendants are suing him for alleged civil rights violations.

From Timesunion.com:

It marks the second time the criminal case against the former Orlando pharmacy’s operators has been revived by an appeals court. The former pharmacy’s operators were snared in what law enforcement officials said was a nationwide steroids distribution network that relied on doctors who signed prescriptions for patients they never met. A majority of the customers had no legitimate need for the drugs, which were used for bodybuilding and anti-aging purposes.

At least 17 people, including several physicians, have been convicted in the case. The investigation exposed illicit use of steroids and human growth hormone by professional athletes, celebrities and hundreds of others, including police officers. The case was cited in a report to Congress that analyzed steroid abuse in Major League Baseball, and it led to the suspension of professional athletes including NFL stars and pro wrestlers.

“We’re not going to make any comment on the decision and an appeal is under consideration,” said William J. Dreyer, an attorney for Robert and Naomi Loomis.

Vision problems with steroid drugs

Steroid drugs such as prednisone that are taken by 25.5 million Americans for arthritis, cancer, transplants and other conditions should come with stronger warning labels, according to a University of Michigan eye doctor and the consumer Public Citizen organization recently in a federal petition.

These drugs need to come with stronger consumer warnings about rare but possibly irreversible vision impairment.

From Yourlife.usatoday.com:

The problem, chorioretinopathy, which causes distortion in vision, is not well known to doctors, U-M’s Jonathan Trobe said.

Given the number of people who take the drugs, “it’s useful to know that a lot of visual complications are associated with steroids and if people develop a problem they should see an eye care specialist,” said Trobe, professor of ophthalmology and neurology at U-M.

Trobe joined the nonprofit Washington, D.C., organization in calling for stronger and more consistent warnings about the drugs.

Only two manufacturers of more than a dozen have listed the complication on drug labels as a potential side effect, Dr. Michael Carome, deputy director of Public Citizen’s Health Research Group said.
