An investigation has been instigated by the Scottish Rugby Union after Test lock Scott MacLeod failed to clear a drug test.

A urine sample provided by MacLeod was found to contain abnormally high levels of testosterone and he has been suspended.

“As standard procedure, while this irregularity is being investigated further, Scott MacLeod will not be playing or training with the Scarlets until the matter has been resolved.

“The player and the Scarlets management, along with the Scottish Rugby Union, hope to conclude this matter as soon as possible.

“We will assist the player and co-operate fully with the Scottish Rugby Union while the inquiry takes place.”

MacLeod has failed a doping test for the second time. Previously, he tested positive due to an asthma medicine that contained steroids and was acquitted at that time.

Roger Clemens, the former baseball pitcher, has pleaded innocence to charges that he lied and obstructed a congressional investigation into whether he made use of banned performance enhancing drugs.
