However, probation is more likely for Tejada, who was the 2002 American League MVP while playing with the Oakland Athletics.

Federal magistrate judge Alan Kay said he would sentence Tejada on March 26, which falls during spring training.

Tejada, who is from the Dominican Republic, admitted to buying what he believed was human growth hormone while with the Athletics in 2003 but said he threw away the drug without using it and prosecutors said they had no evidence to contradict his claim.

Tejada was accused by the federal prosecutors for making misrepresentations to congressional staffers during an interview about the prevalence of steroids in the game.

Yankees officials reach out to representatives of their star slugger Alex Rodriguez after learning about initiation of investigations against a Canadian-based doctor named Anthony Galea for being a possible distributor of performance enhancing drugs.

The officials were curious to find out if A-Rod had ever had any dealings with Galea.

The Yankees were particularly concerned, said a person in baseball with knowledge of what occurred, because Rodriguez was monitored by a chiropractor last season who had worked closely with Galea in the past. The monitoring was part of the follow-up to Rodriguez’s hip surgery last March, and the apparent link to Galea made the Yankees nervous.

So, the person said, the inquiry went out to Rodriguez’s representatives: Did the third baseman — the highest-paid player in baseball — have any interactions with Galea? And the answer came back: No.

Now, however, those same Yankees officials are not sure what to think.

On Monday, Rodriguez told reporters at the team’s spring training facility in Tampa, Fla., that he had been contacted by federal authorities seeking to interview him in connection with their investigation of Galea.

Investigators illegally seized a list of baseball players who allegedly tested positive for steroids during a 2004 drug lab raid, as per a reaffirmation of a ruling by a federals appeals court.

The 9th Circuit also closed its doors to any more appeals.

A federal appeals court has reaffirmed its ruling that investigators illegally seized a list of baseball players who allegedly tested positive for steroids during a 2004 drug lab raid.

It’s the third time the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled on the issue during six years of litigation. Three trial courts also have issued separate rulings in the case.

On Monday, the 11-judge panel again ordered investigators to return the list of 104 players to the labs, effectively barring them from using the players to expand their sports doping investigation.

The 9th Circuit also closed its doors to any further appeals.

The government still could appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. A phone message left for a Justice Department spokesman was not immediately returned.

The government can still appeal to the US Supreme Court after the federals appeals court made the reaffirmation.
