Clear way for NBN and Telstra after election results

TELSTRA has been divided as the general public over the vision of a returned Labor government but election results have made the company’s direction much clearer than ever and before one and all.

Tony Abbott recently called the NBN “school halls on steroid” and said that this project will be a “minefield of waste and mismanagement”.

From Theaustralian.com.au:

The Liberals complain that despite the independents’ proclaiming the national significance of the NBN, they were totally uninterested in learning about the opposition’s cheaper alternative, which relied more on market forces and competing technologies.

But Labor’s willingness to pay so much reduces Telstra’s commercial risks from what Tony Windsor yesterday happily called “the infrastructure of this century”. It’s the taxpayers who will be betting on the percentage of customers willing to pay for 100 megabits per second from a fixed-line service. In the meantime, Telstra must quickly achieve what Thodey is promising — turning itself into a company led by sales and marketing rather than one led by engineering.

Telstra makes the NBN simpler by accepting a non-compete agreement by persisting with delivering broadband via its cable network.

Efficacy of vitamin E in restoration of sudden hearing loss

According to the findings of a study, vitamin E could prove effective in the restoration of sudden onset hearing loss.

According to the researchers, further studies can help in creating a better understanding of the role of antioxidants in idiopathic sudden hearing loss besides determining the most effective antioxidant and its optimal dose.

From Bio-medicine.org:

Previous research shows antioxidants could prevent consequences of damage in the inner ears of animals. With this evidence, researchers assumed antioxidants could reduce the damage and enhance recovery of idiopathic sudden hearing loss.

Sixty-six participants were enrolled in the study within eight days from onset of the hearing loss. They were all treated with bed rest, magnesium, inhalation of carbogen and steroids, and the patients in the study group received 400 milligrams of twice-daily vitamin E in addition. The success of the treatment, defined as improvement of 75 percent or more, was better in the study group (about 78 percent vs. about 45 percent). This was also true at follow-up. However, the difference in complete recovery between the groups was insignificant.

Sudden hearing loss is identifiable in only 10-15 percent of the cases that include viral and bacterial diseases, and metabolic, neurologic, and immunologic sources.

Nolvadex –Choice of Successful Bodybuilders and Sportsmen

Looking for an antiestrogen to get rid of estrogen side effects? Trust Nolvadex to stay hassle-free from all estrogen complications such as oily skin, acne, gynecomastia, and fluid retention and reap optimum benefits of anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs.

Nolvadex, also known by the names LiquiNolva and Tamoxifen Citrate, is an effective antiestrogen used by sportsmen on steroids (especially those on 17-alkalyte steroids and testosterone derivatives) to stay at a distance away from side effects of excess estrogen formation.

The non-steroidal agent (Nolvadex) demonstrates exemplary antiestrogenic properties primarily because of its ability to compete with estrogen for binding sites in target tissues such as in the breast region. Nolvadex helps users of anabolic steroids avoid aromatization of anabolic steroids into estrogens.

The chemical name of Nolvadex is (Z)-2-[4-(1,2-diphenylbut-1-enyl)phenoxy]-N,N-dimethyl-ethanamine and its molecular formula is C29H29NO. The molecular weight of this potent antiestrogen is 371.515 g/mol at the base and it has an elimination half life of approximately 20 hours.

Nolvadex is also useful for increasing the serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone, especially after the end of a steroid cycle involving harsh and aromatizable steroids. Also used as a cancer treatment drug, Nolvadex stimulates effective functioning of the lipid profiles and is rated superior to other antiestrogens such as Clomid.

Nolvadex is best taken, immediately before the end of a steroid cycle, in doses of 20-40 mg per day. When abused, Nolvadex can lead to possible side effects such as hot flashes, depression, dizziness, and headache.

Broward Sheriff’s Office hit by steroid scandal

The Broward Sheriff’s Office was hit by a steroid scandal after 15 deputies and one civilian employee were taken off the road on suspicion that they were making use of steroids.

Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Leljedal told that the sixteen BSO employees were rounded up and ordered to take a drug test.

From Blogs.browardpalmbeach.com:

“I can’t tell you much because it’s an internal affairs investigation,” Leljedal said. “We have sixteen people that may have been using steroids. I don’t know if they had a prescription or not.”

This isn’t the first steroids scandal to hit the agency. When deputy Todd Fatta was shot down during a raid in 2004, toxicology tests showed he had anabolic steroids in his system. In 2005, eight deputies were caught using steroids, all of them obtaining the drugs from a Deerfield Beach company called PowerMedica. They were ultimately cleared of wrongdoing because they had prescriptions.

The outcome sent a stern message to other deputies who were on steroids or intending to make use of them in the future.

HCG and Professional Bodybuilding

If you are about to join the league of professional bodybuilding or any other professional sport, HCG is one naturally occurring peptide hormone that can take you to new heights so that staying ahead of the rest is not a concern but a fulfilled dream.

HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin is considered as a miracle drug by professional sportsmen and sport coaches that can restore the natural production of active and total testosterone after the same has been delayed or inhibited due to use of aromatizable anabolic steroids or performance enhancing drugs in the past. It mimics the luteinizing hormone and is generally prescribed for restoring testosterone and inducing ovulation after standard therapies have failed to deliver.

The IUPAC name of HCG is (2S)-2-amino-6-[[(2R)-1-(carboxymethylamino)-1-oxo-3-sulfanylpropan-2-yl]amino]-6-oxohexanoic acid and it has the chemical formula of C11H19N3O6S.

HCG is also effective for treating undescended testicles in young males and maintaining testicle size during a steroid cycle. It is equally effective for treating puberty-related complications such as deepened voice, pubic hair growth, and increased acne in young males and has the unique ability of enhancing the chances of a multiple pregnancy ((twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc.) in expecting women.

The recommended dose of HCG is 1500-3000 I.U. in injectable form and these doses are best taken every 4th or 5th day and for a period of 2-3 weeks at a stretch. Overdose or abuse of HCG can lead to side effects such as s fatigue, erythema, urticaria, rash angioedema, dyspnea, irritability, headache, and shortness of breath and should be best avoided.

Drug combo may be useful for prostate cancer patients

A combination of docetaxel and estramustine, the cancer drugs, may be useful for prostate cancer patients whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body and who no longer respond to hormone therapy.

Derek Raghavan, M.D., director of the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center, and co-author of the study, said patients administered with docetaxel and prednisone had a better outcome throughout the survival curve.

From News-medical.net:

The study found that patients who received a combination of docetaxel and estramustine experienced an improvement in their survival rate vs. those treated with mitoxantrone, another cancer drug, and prednisone, a type of steroid.

“This work will be important in shaping future drug strategies in treating patients with advanced, hormone-resistant prostate cancer, as no prior study has shown an improvement in their median or overall survival,” said Derek Raghavan, M.D., director of the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center, and co-author of the study. Dr. Raghavan is one of the leaders of the Genitourinary Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group, the team that conducted the study. The physicians at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center are members of this cooperative cancer research group.

The finding was revealed by a study published in an issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Singulair pill offers hope for obese people

The prescription pill sold as Singulair is better than a type of inhaled steroid when it comes to providing benefits to people who are overweight or obese, according to a new study. It was also remarked that leaner people may find it better with beclomethasone (sold as beclovent, vanceril, and other brand names), an inhaled steroid.

The findings appear in an issue of the European Respiratory Journal.

From News-medical.net:

Researchers looked at data from four previous multi-center, randomized clinical trials from 3,073 patients with moderate asthma. The data included the patients’ responses to Singulair/montelukast, a beclomethasone inhaled steroid and a placebo, and the participants’ body mass index numbers, which placed them in the categories of normal, overweight and obese.

In general, the severity of people’s asthma was found to be greater among those in the overweight and obese groups, which supports findings from other studies.

In addition, the inhaled steroid was found to be better than Singulair at increasing the number of asthma control days (ACD) among people in the normal weight category. An ACD is defined as a day with no more than two puffs of an inhaler, no night-time awakenings and no asthma attacks.

According to lead author Marc Peters-Golden, M.D., professor of internal medicine and director of the Fellowship Program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School, there is no evidence highlighting that response of people to specific asthma medications are influenced by obesity.

Finasteride and Professional Bodybuilding

Professional sportsmen and health conscious individuals on anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs are often concerned with the biggest side effect, loss of hair. This is where Finasteride comes to the rescue and help them reap and optimize benefits of steroids without any worries.

Finasteride, which is also known as Proscar and  Propecia, is an excellent option for treating male pattern baldness that is often the biggest cause of concern for sportsmen on harsh and aromatizable steroids. This hair loss drug, which is a 5-α reductase inhibitor, is instrumental in preventing the production of a male hormone in the scalp region that leads to the inhibition of hair growth. In addition to being an exceptional hair treatment drug, Finasteride is also admired for minimizing the risks of urinary retention and surgery needs that may include transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and prostatectomy.

The molecular weight of Finasteride is 372.55 g/mol at the base and its molecular formula is C23H36N2O2. When used in doses of 5 mg per day for a period of 3 months, Finasteride can effectively prevent loss of hair. It is, however, important to note that use of Finasteride should always be preceded by qualified medical advice so that Finasteride abuse does not happen at any point of time, knowingly or unknowingly. Finasteride abuse can lead to side effects such as testicle pain, low libido, swelling of the lips, itching, and reduced ejaculatory volume.

In order to maintain its shelf life, Finasteride is required to be stored at a controlled room temperature below 30°C (86°F).
